The question of trust is at the heart of every single chapter. Do people trust each other, do people trust Government, do people trust their leadership? When trust is present you achieve better outcomes every single time. It is an elusive concept that has to be earned rather than demanded. Trust goes hand in hand with integrity, consistency and predictability and that is something for us to be very conscious of.
There’s a whiff of hope out there.
Sounds like a strange thing to say when, as this episode is recorded, Australia comes to grips with the early days of the corona virus pandemic. We are a nation that has literally no idea what 2020 will be like.
But there’s hope. And Andrew Wear has tapped into it.
Andrew is a public policy expert from Melbourne. He’s worked across a vast array of policy areas from Planning and Community, Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources. But his view is global. And that came in handy when he decided to write a book that just generally looked at how some of the world’s biggest problems were being solved. Regarded by Andrew as a journey of discovery for himself, the book is called SOLVED - and it details how ten countries solved ten big problems from climate change to multiculturalism.
It's a brilliantly researched and inspiring read whether you’re into public policy itself or simply a resident of planet Earth.
In this episode of Rare Air, Andrew gives an in-depth explanation of how Denmark is a leading light in climate action, Australia leads the way on multiculturalism, and why trust is the hallmark of all the effective leadership shown when the world solves its problems.
